2011 Lamborghini Reventon Roadster

Pictures of the exclusive new Lamborghini Reventon roadster have leaked out ahead of the car’s unveiling at the Frankfurt motor show next week.

The reports accompanying the leaked pictures claim the styling is inspired by jet-engined aircraft and the body panels are made from carbonfibre. A hard-top version of the Reventon was seen as Frankfurt two years ago.

Inside, it is reported to get an Alcantara leather interior with lots of carbonfibre trim. It rides on 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

Power is likely to come from the 6.5-litre V12 engine it shares with the Murcielago. In the Reventon, it is expected to produce 641bhp and 487lb ft of torque. It should be mated to a six-speed ‘box and be equipped with all-wheel drive. It is expected to get from 0-62mph in 3.4secs and reach a top speed of 211mph.

New Renault Espace 2010
Renault would rather you didn’t see just yet – the next-generation Espace.

With its current people carrier set to remain in showrooms for another three years, the firm was hoping to keep the replacement under wraps.

However, these images reveal all the details of the new MPV – and it looks as if it will be well worth the wait. Adopting the distinctive new headlamp design first seen on the Laguna family car, the Espace looks more futuristic than ever. Bold lines at the front accentuate the large glass area, carried over from the existing model, while a massive Renault badge takes pride of place on the curvy bonnet.

IED unveils beON Concept

At the 77th International Geneva Motor Show the Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin presents the emotional hybrid “beON”, designed by the Master RSP in Transportation Design – work experience, and the three winning thesis projects created together with McLaren Automotive by the Three year post-high school Transportation design – car design course.
The Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin, one of the top car design training institutions in the world, is giving a preview of “beON”, the real size concept car, designed by the students of the 4th RSP Master in Transportation Design, as well as offering this years audiences the opportunity to get another look at “M eleven B”, “Manta” and “MP 11”, the three models that were awarded prizes by McLaren Automotive as part of the thesis project developed by students in the 3-year post-high school Transportation Design course 2005-6.

For the fourth consecutive year the IED Turin has confirmed its record of being the only School in the world to take part in the Geneva International Motor Show, the highest point of the Institute’s designing and creative process.

The scale model (3860 mm long, 2100 mm wide, 1600 mm high, wheel base 2750 mm) stems from the decision to concentrate the research efforts of the Master course student on the search for a solution that might marry style with technology, hybrid propulsion with excitement. The result is a state of the art ecological vehicle with the potential to turn the dream of an unpolluted world into reality, without sacrificing the thrill of driving.

Taking as its starting point the problems connected to the nature of hybrid vehicles and their 'somewhat unappealing image', the project set itself the challenge of creating a model that was not just “useful” but also aesthetically sophisticated, with startling lines and heightened potential, that might provide these kinds of technologies with greater visibility and appeal.

The 19 students, led by the master coordinators Carsten Astheimer, Head of Design at Brunswick Boat Group and Luca Borgogno, a Pininfarina Designer, have come up with a concept car that clearly voices the ideas of freedom and movement, developed around a structure conceived to represent excellence in terms of functionality and originality. The vehicle, a two seater off-road sports car, has been designed to travel over deserts, beaches and wild terrains, as well as negotiating the urban jungles, offering its passengers the best interior comfort together with the opportunity of enjoying the view outside the cockpit; it’s ideally suited for travel in extreme conditions, allowing nature to be experienced with the maximum freedom and in the most adventurous way.

The flowing exterior, embracing and protective like soft skin, changes shape and colour, creating empty spaces that emphasize the lightness and thorough enjoyment to be gained from the car. The see through sun-roof, made of glass and plexiglass, adds to the feeling of being completely immersed in the surrounding environment. For the mechanics, the choice has fallen on a hybrid thermal-electric engine connected to a very special hydraulic transmission system placed within each wheel hub. This ingenious combination ensures excellent off-road performance and seeing as it can also act as a break, it means that the traditional disk and calliper breaking system can be completely eliminated.

The model is the result of a complex selection process that included a number of different stages: out of the initial eighteen individual proposals, nine were then chosen to be produced in 1:4 scale models. The students worked on these as pairs or teams of three. A technical panel headed by the engineer Lorenzo Ramaciotti and made up of Dott. Giuliano Molineri, Frimark President, the engineer Costanzo Berta, Aerodynamics, aero-acustics and bodywork experimentation expert, Dott. Arrigo Gallizio, Segno Milano President, and the Master coordinators, was subsequently responsible for supervising the final selection that led to the choice of the final model, and also made suggestions as to possible ways in which the car could be further developed.

“beON” is a project devised by: Jaywant Bharat Bhalla (India), Abhijeet Bhoge (India), Rishabh Chaturvedi (India), Anindya Dutta Roy (India), Pablo José Gaido (Argentine), Jesús González Torres (Mexico), Andrey Gusev (Russia), Matteo Krzanowski (Italy), Nemanja Lalicic (Serbia), Vincenzo Langella (Italy), Aldo Meli (Italy), Giorgio Olori (Italy), Emre Ozbilgin (Turkey), Jim Patané (Canada), Cagri Ahmet Selcuklu (Turkey), Gopal Tamaskar (India), Yogesh Yadav (India) and Sinan Yogunali (Turkey).
The following took part in the project as tutors: Alessio Minchella and Dario Olivero, ex IED students.
The model was created in collaboration with: Automotive Lighting, Model Resine, OZ Racing, Pirelli, Weiss S.p.A. (KONI shock absorbers).

The model was built out of Cecomp.

Angel Car Concept with Futuristic Look and A Bit of Retro Charm

Angel is a concept car inspired by the fairy angels at a minimal and very pure design manner. Peugeot Angel is specially designed for city use that will give the users an unbelievable driving experience. This concept car has a futuristic look with a little bit of retro charm. All the front wheels have a standard car like look but the rear wheels are functioning on idea of circulation of opposite magnetic fields and this movement actually develops magnetic field that aloes this superb car to be levitated in its back. With this process the Angel car is lighter than traditional cars and requires less power to perform smooth drive.

Car Design…

I don’t really consider myself a “car guy”. I enjoy racing games. I’ve seen the Pixar movie. I know my fair share of the latest models on the street and many of the classics. But I don’t crave them. I don’t talk about them all the time. I don’t care if I’m driving the latest or fastest. I can’t fix them. I’ve never seen Bullitt
As a designer though, there is a certain allure. I never had the chance to take a legit transportation design class in college, but there was that temptation. That niggling little voice in my head that said, “yeah, cars are cool.”

There is just something inherently interesting about the shape of cars; the whole format; the platform if you will. Four wheels, two headlights, etc. It’s amazing there are so many variants out there. So many interpretations for a fairly limited archetype.
That little voice told me to give it a spin. Get it out of my system. I started this project, a long time ago. I just had to finish it so I could move on to other projects that I need to get out of my system. So about a week and half ago, I dug out my old files and started over. It’s nice to step away from something and come back to it. You see new things.
I started with this as my basic idea: make a “super car”. Yeah, I know – cliché, but if you have to get a car design out of your system, might as well make it big and fast (looking). I wanted something that evoked classic 60′s cars (Dinos and Cobras and such) but still feel modern. I always loved this era since car design really was about the shape of things rather than how contorted the sheet metal could be or how many vents something could have (all functional of course!). Keep it simple. Make it nice
I know there is a lot missing with this one. No side markers. No exhaust (hydrogen power?). The grille isn’t really finished. I didn’t do an interior since I didn’t start from the inside-out and no-one could possibly fit in it… or maybe they could. I took the basic dimensions from a Murcielago; overall XYZ dimensions, the track width and wheel base (although I ended-up stretching it a bit).
I took this on as a personal challenge. There was a lot I didn’t know about car surfacing and overall proportions, but I know what I like. I like Cobras (as mentioned). Harald Belker’s Lexus from Minority Report is pretty cool. I love the DBR9 Aston Martin. The Ferrari P45 and Enzo are nice as far as super cars go. So yeah, I took bits and pieces from all of these to make my car. As such, I didn’t set out to make it fit any existing brand. I don’t have a name for this car. It’s working title was just J-car in all my 3D files. It could really use a logo on the nose and tail. Details…

As an aside, I should mention that all of this was done in AliasStudio 2008 running on my new Mac Pro. Overall, I am super impressed with the performance. The images are not renderings, but screen captures directly from the CAD application (with a bit of Photoshop for the depth of field and lighting effects). Real-time rendering has simplified my life in so many ways. I love to look at a product as it is developing and evaluate in under a variety of lighting conditions and in different materials. The “image base lighting” features added in the 2008 edition make for some fantastic images. These have a nice airbrush quality to them more than photorealistic. Not hyper real, but convincing. Maybe one day, I’ll do some Maya Mental Ray images of it.

This has been a really fun project. I learned a lot. I learned how many tools are in AliasStudio are tailored for car design that I don’t use on consumer products. I also picked-up some cool shading tricks that I may share at a future date.
Oh, and here’s one for the Cobra fans
